Weed in New Jersey keeps getting cheaper. By the CRC's own numbers, adult-use flower averaged $6.51 a gram in June 2026, down from $8.33 a year earlier. Do the math and that's about $23 for an average eighth. I've watched jar prices slide at the counter all year, and the state's data backs that up.

The numbers

June 2025 compared with June 2026, from the CRC's July 16 meeting slides:

  • Flower price per gram: down 21.8%, from $8.33 to $6.51
  • Adult-use sales: up 22.8%, to $115.3 million for the month
  • Transactions (rec and medical together): up 26%, to about 3.47 million

Over a longer stretch, from January 2023 to March 2026, the CRC counts transactions up 74%, sales up 52%, and price down 48%. More people buying, more often, for less per gram.

Medical is going the other way. Medical sales fell from $4.69 million in June 2025 to $2.77 million in June 2026, about 41% down. Medical flower also averaged $7.02 a gram in June, more per gram than rec, though medical skips the sales tax.

A note on the numbers going around

You might have seen "prices down 35%, sales up 38%." That's from a Dank Reports analysis published in April with data through October 2025. Its 35% covers January 2024 to October 2025, and its 38% is manufactured products like carts and edibles, not grams of flower. The CRC's newer numbers tell the same story, so those are what I used.

The CRC's slides also don't always agree with each other. December 2025 shows $6.69 a gram in the May deck and $7.42 in the July deck. I used the newest one. These are early Metrc numbers, so the CRC can still revise them.

What the price can't tell you

The state's numbers don't break price down by quality, so they can't tell you whether today's $6 gram is the same flower that used to cost $8.

My own price tracker has four flower reviews with a price and a size so far. The median is $12.86 a gram, about $45 an eighth, almost double the state average. The cheapest jar scored the lowest, but the best score came from the middle of the range. Four jars isn't a dataset, and they lean craft, so I'm not drawing a line from that yet. Like I said in my pricing take, price should track quality and cure, not hype.

Cheaper also doesn't change what's on the label. With the CRC still reviewing the labs, a cheap jar's THC number deserves the same side-eye as an expensive one. And falling prices push the social equity fee toward a bigger jump, which is on the table at the October 29 CRC meeting.

Here's what I'd do at the counter

  1. Do the per-gram math. Around $23 is an average eighth right now, so if you're paying $45 or more, ask what the extra is for.
  2. Smell it before you buy if the shop lets you. Cheap and loud beats expensive and flat.
  3. Check the pack date. A deep discount can mean old stock.
  4. If you're a medical patient, compare both sides. Medical flower averaged more per gram than rec in June, before you count the tax.

I'll keep logging what I pay on every review and adding it to the price tracker. When there are enough jars, I'll check whether the cheap ones actually score worse.

How this was put together

Written October 7, 2026. Prices, sales and transactions are the CRC’s uncertified Metrc figures from its May and July 2026 meeting slides, using the newer deck where they differ. The $23 eighth is my own math from the average price per gram. My own prices come from my reviews and are a small sample.
